Jyoti and Amit originally met through Instagram in December 2023, fell in love, and had a court marriage followed by a traditional wedding in March 2024.

According to the victim’s family, the couple faced frequent arguments after marriage because Amit objected to Jyoti’s constant use of Instagram and her social media interactions.

On the night of October 2, 2024, just six months into their marriage,Jyoti tied her husband’s hands and strangled him to death with a school tie inside their residence in the Chilhya area.

Immediately after committing the murder, Jyoti dialed the UP-112 police emergency service, confessed to the crime, and surrendered to the authorities.

On September 30, 2026, the district court officially convicted Jyoti under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, sentencing her to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹10,000.

While the prosecution presented the family’s statements regarding the Instagram disputes, the court based its final conviction on the absolute forensic evidence and the testimony of the witnesses.
