In Dhamtari district, Chhattisgarh, a 38-year-old husband axed his wife’s lover to death after waking up to find them in a compromising position.

The victim, a resident of Mandsaur (Madhya Pradesh), had been invited into the home and falsely introduced by the wife as her distant cousin.

The deceased (Shankar Suryavanshi, 39) and the accused’s wife (Poornia) originally connected over a wrong phone number and maintained a relationship.

The woman had even visited the man’s home in Madhya Pradesh a few weeks prior.

On the evening of July 8, 2026, the lover arrived at the home. After having dinner with the family, all the individuals, including the husband, wife, and two children, went to sleep together in the same hall. Around 3:00 AM, the husband woke up, saw the pair together, and fatally attacked the lover with an axe.

Despite the wife rushing the severely injured man to the hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.

Local police intervened, registered a case, and officially arrested the husband.
