In Etah, Uttar Pradesh, a husband caught his wife red-handed with her alleged lover inside an OYO hotel room on Kasganj Road, just two months after their marriage.
Having developed suspicions, the husband tracked his wife to the hotel room where she was staying with her boyfriend.
A massive uproar took place at the scene, prompting local onlookers to gather. Upon receiving information about the high drama, the Kotwali Dehaat police arrived at the hotel.
The police took both the wife and her alleged lover into custody. They were brought to the local police station for formal questioning and further investigation.
While incidents of this nature frequently go viral on social media, ADULTERY is no longer a criminal offense in India. The Supreme Court of India struck down Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in 2018, ruling that infidelity cannot be treated as a criminal act.
Although it is not a crime, adultery remains a valid, ironclad civil ground for divorce under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 and the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
