7-months-after-marriage, wife leaves husband; takes away jewellery and cash: UP

A case from Fatehpur district has raised serious questions about marital relationships and trust within a family. Around seven months after the marriage, a woman allegedly refused to live with her husband.

According to the husband, his wife used to call him “impotent” and would repeatedly talk to another man over the phone.

He alleged that whenever he objected, she would get angry and refuse to stay with him.

The husband claimed that on June 21, he went to his in-laws’ house to take his wife back.

A panchayat was subsequently held between both families, following which the wife returned to her matrimonial home.

However, on June 24, she allegedly consumed a poisonous substance. Her family members took her to a Primary Health Centre, where doctors reportedly confirmed that she had consumed a poisonous substance.

She was subsequently taken by her maternal family to a medical college for treatment.

The woman allegedly returned to her matrimonial home along with members of her maternal family, created a commotion and left with gold and silver jewellery worth around ₹5 lakh and ₹1 lakh in cash that had been kept in the house.

The husband then approached the police with his complaint. After allegedly not receiving a response, he approached the court seeking legal intervention.

Lalauli police registered an FIR against six people, including the wife and members of her maternal family, under serious sections of the law.
