A 52-year-old college clerk and gym owner cum bodybuilder, Devdutt Sharma, ended his life at his home in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district on Saturday.

Before his de*th, Sharma reportedly sent a WhatsApp message to his niece speaking about humiliation and giving instructions about his last rites. Police have launched an investigation.

Devdutt had been running a facility named ‘Rock Gym’ behind his house since the year 2000. For the past two years, he was also employed as a clerk at Balaji Group of College in the city on a monthly salary of ₹17,000.

A neighbour, Sushil, stated that Devdutt Sharma had gone to the gym on Saturday evening. According to his wife, Devdutt returned home from the gym around 7:00 PM and sh*t himself point-blank with a firearm.




Before taking the extreme step, Sharma sent a lengthy WhatsApp message to his niece explaining his actions.

“I can no longer tolerate the humiliation,” the message read. “It is better to die once than to die every day. I am not a coward, but this humiliation has killed my soul from within. Do not let my wife touch my body.”

“Do not use cow dung cakes for my cremation, nor spend much money on it. No religious ceremonies should be performed for the peace of my soul; I want my soul to keep wandering. Take care of your mother,” he wrote.

Local police have launched an investigation into the matter.

Devdutt married Seema Rani (49) 33 years ago. Apart from his wife, he is survived by two sons.

The elder son, Abhishek, works in Dubai, while the younger son, Aditya, is studying forensics in Chandigarh.

Aditya is also a powerlifter who recently won a gold medal in Dehradun by lifting 135 kg in the 74 kg category.
