The woman has been identified as Ashiki Devi (30), while her alleged lover has been identified as Shivam (24). The deceased was identified as Anand Rajput alias Mahboob (35).
Cops said Anand’s body was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside his house on July 12, in what initially appeared to be a case of suicide.
Suspecting foul play, police did not conduct a routine postmortem and instead got the autopsy conducted by a panel of two doctors.
The postmortem report confirmed death by strangulation and revealed injury marks on the neck.
Police detained the woman for questioning after receiving the autopsy report. According to police, she kept changing her statements but eventually confessed during sustained questioning, following which her alleged lover was also arrested.
The accused first allegedly made Anand unconscious by mixing sleeping pills in his milk. They then allegedly strangled him with a scarf and later hung the body from the fan to make the murder appear to be a suicide.
Anand had become aware of the relationship between his wife and Shivam some time ago.
He had allegedly found the two in a compromising position in March and filed a case against Shivam, following which he was sent to jail.
Shivam was released on bail in June, after which he allegedly hatched a plan with the woman to kill Anand.
