In a bizarre incident from Maharashtra, a man from Solapur has married twin sisters from Mumbai.

The man got married to the two women, both IT professionals, aged 36 years at the same ceremony held at a hotel located in Malegaon village on Akluj Welapur Road in Akluj taluka on December 2.

The two sisters reportedly decided to marry the same man as they couldn’t bear parting ways after marriage. Both the family consented to the strange demand of the twins, said police officials.

Videos of the wedding that took place on Friday have gone viral on social media where the names of the brides and groom were written prominently, and people were seen cheering the twins.

After that, a social worker from Akluj approached the Solapur district police and complained about the incident.

Offence u/s 494IPC (marrying again during lifetime of husband or wife) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the groom at Akluj police station, an official said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Basavraj Shivpuje said, “Since it is a non-cognizable offence, we will be approaching the court on Monday and seek permission to conduct a probe in the case.”

“We have preliminary information that both the sisters are close and wanted to stay together. Further investigation is underway,” Solapur rural superintendent of police Shirish Sardeshpande said.
