In an exceptional judgement , the Pune family court ordered a 78-year-old wife to pay Rs 25,000 per month in interim alimony to her 83-year-old husband.

The verdict was delivered by Family Court Judge Raghavendra Aradhye.

In this case, after 55 years of marriage, the couple filed for a divorce in 2019. The petitioner, an 83-year-old educational institution director and his 78-year-old wife is the same organization’s president.

The couple got married in 1964. According to the husband’s petition, he has been harassed for the past several years by his wife for leaving the institution and leaving home.
The applicant said that when the woman had undergone illness, he had taken proper care of her. But as soon as she got cured, she started harassing him again.
The man is suffering from diabetes and heart disease, as a result of which the doctor has advised him to take good care of his health and have proper food and take medicine on time. The man claims, that his wife forbade him to eat at home. Frustrated with her harassment, the petitioner filed for divorce in 2018.
The husband then filed for divorce after becoming tired of his wife’s harassment. Both have accused the other of having an extramarital affair.

The couple has two daughters who are both married.

“If the husband does not have a source of income and his wife does, and there are ongoing family disputes between them, the husband may file a claim for alimony under Section 24 of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.” “This case demonstrates that not only the wife, but also the unjust men, receive justice,” said the petitioner man’s lawyer, Adv. Vaishali Chandne.

The final verdict was then delivered in favour of the husband on Friday and the court ordered the wife to pay monthly alimony of Rs. 25000 to her estranged husband.
