A 21-year-old man named Monu from Jarthal village in Rewari, Haryana, was murdered by his wife, Tannu, and her lover, Sonu, who strangled him and threw him alive into the Asalwas canal to stage his death as a drowning.
The wife faked grief & cried at the funeral to evade suspicion, but deleted chats and call logs ultimately exposed her plot.
Police said Monu had been doing odd jobs and had recently started a shop in Jaliyawas. Investigators believe Tannu remained in regular contact with her alleged lover even after the marriage, and the murder was planned to remove Monu from their way.
Monu, became an obstacle to their relationship.
On the night of the incident, Tannu called Monu to Kasoli village. Sonu and his associates (Hariom and Aman) overpowered Monu, smothered him, and threw him alive into the canal.
When the body was recovered two days later, the family initially believed it was an accident. Tannu was seen crying at the funeral to avoid suspicion.
Monu’s family grew suspicious, had his phone data recovered, and found deleted chats and call logs documenting 49 phone calls and a conspiracy involving Tannu and her lover.
The family brought the evidence to the police, leading to the arrest of Tannu and one of the accomplices, Hariom.
The primary suspects, Sonu and Aman, remain absconding.
