The Karnataka government on Tuesday transferred IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri and IPS officer D. Roopa Moudgil without postings after a fight on social media over sharing private photos.
D Roopa’s IAS husband Munish Moudgil has also been transferred. Earlier too, both women had indulged in a public spat, and had been involved in controversies separately. The issue this time began with Roopa taking to social media to share the “wrongdoings” of Sindhuri. She also accused Sindhuri of misconduct and released personal pictures of her alleging that it was shared by her with a few male officers.
Terming the allegations as baseless, Sindhuri alleged Roopa is making such comments against her out of personal hatred, and was behaving as if she had lost her mental balance.
Sindhuri said she will take legal actions with appropriate authorities for Roopa’s actions amounting to misconduct and criminal offences under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Both the officers had lodged complaints and counter complaints against each other with the Chief Secretary of the government Vandita Sharma.
Later speaking to reporters, Sunduri said, “Roopa is making baseless allegations against me, I had come to complain regarding it to the Chief Secretary. I have given the complaint and sought action.”
“She collected photos from social media and screenshots of (my) WhatsApp status to defame me. As she has alleged that I sent these pictures to some officials, I urge her to reveal their names,” Ms Sindhuri added.
Mental illness is a huge problem, it needs to be addressed by medication and counselling. When it affects people in responsible positions, it becomes all the more dangerous. Roopa IPS has been driving false, personal vilification campaigns against me which is her standard modus operandi,” she alleged.
The Karnataka Home Minister said he had discussed the row with the police chief and the Chief Minister was also aware.
“We are not sitting quiet, action will be taken against them. They both are behaving in such a bad way – not even normal people speak on the streets like this. Let them do whatever they want on their personal issues, but coming before the media and behaving the way they are is not right,” Mr Jnanendra said.
