On 19th September, around 50 husbands did ‘pind daan’ (offering of funeral cakes made of rice) of their living wives near Banganga Tank, Mumbai. These man were those who were either divorced / seperated or fighting prolonged cases against their wives in family courts.
This is a ceremony where people offers prayer and food to their ‘dead relatives’.
This event was organised by an NGO named Vaastav Foundation. The president of the organisation said that they organise such events every year in different cities of India, for those husbands who has gone through harassments in the hands of the wives. These are those husbands who are either divorced or fighting cases of 498A, Dowry etc. In order to get rid of the memories which are haunting them , this ceremony was organised.
The husbands believe that their respective wives took disadvantages of their rights and freedom and extorted them. They have no attachments or emotions left for their respective wives and their relationship has died. Therefore, in order to get rid of the haunting / traumatising memories, they performed this funeral ceremony.
