A woman in Gurugram was booked after she tried to extort Rs 10 lakh from a man whom she had accused of rape. A complaint was filed by the woman which was received at Gurugram Sector 40 police station.
The police on Sunday said the man and the woman had met at a hotel room in South City 1 on April 13, through a common friend. Both of them stayed with each other at the hotel room for some hours after their common friend had left.
The woman approached the police the following day and alleged she was raped by the man at the hotel room. Soon after, the suspect also approached the police and alleged the woman was demanding Rs 10 lakh from him, in return for withdrawing her complaint.
Once complaints from both of them were received, the police provided a mobile phone to the suspect and asked him to record his conversation with the woman.
Police said the man submitted a written complaint against the woman after the call recording proved the woman had actually been demanding money from the suspect.
A case under Section 389 (committing extortion by putting person in fear of accusation of offence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was filed against the woman, following an inquiry into the case.
